Horticulture Industry deals with production, processing, quality management, warehousing, logistics and distribution and marketing of horticultural products. Horticultural products are available in the market both as fresh and processed forms. Fresh products comprise of fresh fruits and vegetables, root and tuber crops, flowers, ornamental plants, medicinal and aromatic plants, spices and condiments and mushrooms. Processed products include canned fruits and vegetables, dried fruits and nuts, frozen fruits and vegetables, fruit and vegetable mixes, and other processed products

They produce higher biomass than field crops per unit area resulting in efficient utilization of natural resources and are highly remunerative for replacing subsistence farming and thus alleviate poverty level in rainfed, dry land, hilly, arid and coastal agro-ecosystems. Horticulture sector has high potential for employment generation in rural as well as urban areas especially in the fields like horticultural food processing and retailing of fresh fruits and vegetables .
