Sometimes organic foods are also termed as ‘natural foods’. Organic foods are free of pesticidal residues and of high quality. Organic foods are more nutritious than conventional foods. Organic fruits and veggies contain 40 % more antioxidants which can cut the risk of cancer, heart diseases and similar other chronic diseases. Organic fruits and veggies have higher levels beneficial minerals such as iron and zinc. Organic foods are more palatable Since organic food is produced in a natural eco-friendly way using only biodegradable natural resources, there are no chances of contamination. Besides higher content of nutrients present in organic foods makes them more palatable. Organic foods are of high quality Since organic foods are produced under organic production systems, these are of high quality. Organic foods are safe and hygienic Conventional diet is reported to contain residues of some 30 different artificial chemicals and many of these chemicals are known carcinogens. These chemicals are also linked to other degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Some of the chemicals are also hormone disrupters. But organic foods are safe, healthy and hygienic. Organic foods have higher fiber content and hence easily digestible Organic fruits and vegetables contain higher content of fiber content and therefore easily digestible. Organic foods have higher content of nutrients Organic foods have higher content of various vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. Flavonoids are phenolic compounds that have potent antioxidant activity. These micronutrients are present in higher amount in organic food and play important roles in preventing cancer and heart disease. Organic foods fight diseases Organic foods are higher in cancer-fighting chemicals than conventional foods. Chemical residues are absent in organic foods Organic foods are produced by registered growers according to the organic standards which make it mandatory that synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers should not be used in organic production systems. Organic foods are GMO free foods Conventional production of genetically modified vegetables such as tomato and brinjal has become a common practice nowadays. However, the use of GMO is forbidden in organic production.
