LANDSCAPE GARDENING
Landscape gardening is a very fascinating and interesting subject. It is an aesthetic branch of horticulture, which deals with planting of ornamental plants in such as way that it creates a picturesque effect. It is nothing but decoration of a piece of land with plants and other garden materials so as to produce a naturalistic effect in a limited space. Three popular styles of landscape gardening are formal, informal and free style of gardening. While designing a landscape garden all art principles like rhythm, balance, accent or emphasis, contrast, proportion and harmony are to be taken care of. Mogul gardens, Japanese gardens and English gardens are famous examples of landscape gardens

ROCK GARDENING
A rock garden should be located in a sunny, well-drained plot of land. The garden should be reproduced in as natural surroundings as possible by choosing a rocky, undulated site. The site chosen should have a slight fall in the ground, but if it is not possible the flat ground is excavated and the excavated soil is used for making mounds and irregular beds. Placement of rocks is an important factor in laying a rock garden. Rock plants cannot grow exclusively on rocks. A well-drained soil mixture is essential. A planting mixture is prepared by mixing the soil with organic compost and the mixture helps the rocky plant species to establish themselves.
INDOOR GARDENING
Cultivation and management of indoor plants mainly shade loving foliage plants and pot grown herbs is referred as indoor gardening. Recently houseplants, which can be managed in homes, have become increasingly popular for interior decoration. With the facilities like central heating and air-conditioning, houses with large windows, frequent use of glass panels and built-in planters and troughs the growing of plants indoors has become a pleasurable activity now. Decorative pieces like window gardens, bottle gardens, terrariums, colourful window boxes, table gardens, miniature landscapes, bowl gardens and dish gardens are in great demand for decorating the interiors of a house in a most natural way. Indoor plants can be grown in clay pots, trays or hanging baskets. These plants also need sunlight and a well-drained soil mix for healthy growth. Misting and grouping the plants on a tray of moistened pebbles will help keep them in a humid condition. An indoor garden can be maintained indefinitely by following good cultural practices such as feeding or fertilization, repotting, occasional pruning, watering etc.

Bonsai is a Japanese art of growing miniature trees in trays and pots.

Cacti and succulents are exotic houseplants that are easy to grow even for a beginner, these plants are available from any local nursery, and summer is the best time to plant them.
GARDEN FEATURES-LAWNS, HEDGES AND HERBACEOUS BORDERS
Lawn is a natural green carpet. It is an important feature of any landscape garden. Bermuda grass and Korean grass are popularly used for establishing a new lawn. Different types of soil can be used but soil should be fertile, well drained and should have good water holding capacity. Before planting the lawn soil should be leveled giving a gentle slope for drainage of excess water. Different methods of planting lawns are dibbling of roots, seeding, turfing, bricking and planting on polythene. Good management practices include mowing and rolling, irrigation, weeding, and timely fertilization.

Hedge is another feature of a landscape garden. When shrub is planted on boundary for fencing it is called hedge. An ideal hedge plant has characteristics such as vigorous growth, thick texture, ability to withstand frequent pruning and drought conditions.

Britishers introduced the concept of herbaceous border in Indian gardens and now it has become a common feature. The planting of annuals in the border of a plot is called a herbaceous border
